Whether it’s Supercomm or Globalcomm, Chicago is here to stay
Converged. Secure. Broadband. These are the words we hear in the communications industry when we talk about networks. It seems that as common as it is to “be connected” these days, the reality is that many people - and countries - are not. So when the infamous SUPERCOMM tradeshow bit the dust (due to a fallout between the two sponsors of the event), it wasn’t surprising to see one of the event organizers (Telecommunications Industry Association or TIA) back a new show geared more toward an international audience. Some say that the new event, entitled Globalcomm, is expected to be just as big as SUPERCOMM but will more accurately represent the growing telecommunications market and constantly evolving landscape on a global level. As much as we try to predict the success of one tradeshow over another, it is difficult to analyze until you’ve been on the show floor facilitating meetings for your clients and have seen the level of customer meetings that are taking place. Over the years, SUPERCOMM suffered along with the rest of the telecom shows, as exhibitors were forced to cut budgets and reduce spending at events or attendance all together. After being in Chicago last month, I thought SUPERCOMM was showing signs of hope. And as the need for us to be connected grows throughout the world, Globalcomm should hopefully prove to be eventful. The proof will be in the pudding next June.
Regardless of Globalcomm’s success or failure next year, the fact that the event will take place in Chicago is a definite plus. A grand and beautiful city, Chicago boasts breathtaking scenic views, fabulous food and an impressive architectural history. It certainly is my kind of town.
See you next June at the show!
